OIP Dance Centre is holding its 7th annual Summer Dance Intensive 2012 for dancers 9 years and up. This year we prepared something special for you! Our teachers’ team will include Canada’s BEST Choreographers including SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE CANADA stars!

This year our specialty classes will include: Breaking, Popping, Musical Theatre, Tap, and House. We have scheduled the classes in a way that the dancer has the choice to train in street-geared dance for almost the entire day if he/she desires. I.e.:

Week 1: Level 1 hip-hop, Level 2 hip-hop, breaking, and house.

They also have choice to train in the technical classes that day if he/she desires. I.e.:

Week 1: level 2 jazz, level 1 jazz and musical theatre.

Dancers can also choose to make their own mix of styles. Some classes are open levels like musical theatre, breaking and the reggae classes. Those classes welcome beginners to advanced dancers.

*Students are welcome to switch back and forth between levels throughout the day. Please keep in mind that classes will be progressive and students will be performing at the end of the week, so it is recommended that you stay in the same level of each class for the entire week.

“Laura Edwards grew up studying all styles of dance during her childhood. It wasn’t until after high school when her professional dancing career jump started as a featured dancer in a music video for hip hop artist Lil’ Mo. With a new attitude towards the dance industry, Laura moved to Los Angeles to enhance her skills and take on new opportunities.

Since her new beginning, she has appeared in several different feature films including: Footloose, Step Up, and Hairspray. Aside from the big screen, she has toured with one of our generations biggest pop stars, Britney Spears, appeared in season one of “America’s Best Dance Crew” and has had the pleasure to perform with others such as Beyonce and Miley Cyrus.

With an affinity of dance, Laura exercises her talents with choreography as well. As a recurring instructor for the notorious dance convention, “Monsters of Hip Hop,” she’s able to give back and inspire through her instruction to aspiring professional dancers. Laura has also assisted in choreography on “So You Think You Can Dance” in both the US and Canada. As her career moves forward, Laura remains humble and appreciative of all her accomplishments.”

Following her intuition, Tamina began dancing at the age of 6. By the time she was 8, she had received full scholarships at Toronto’s Interplay School of dance where she received training in Hip-hop, Jazz, Irish, Ballet, and Pointe. This fusion of dance styles in combination with Tamina’s “Diva- flair” is what helped to create her unique presentation o f dance that she has been teaching for the last five years, in all levels.

A six-time “threat” (Dancer, Choreographer, Singer, Rapper, Actress and Model), Tamina’s dance highlights include: “So You Think You Can Dance Canada” Top 16, the movies “Disney’s Camp Rock” starring the Jonas Brothers and “Sorority Wars”; commercials (Zantac “Hot Stuff”, Disney’s High School Musical 2, America’s Best Dance Crew, Bell Mobility); dancing for recording artists Lady Gaga, Keshia Chante, Danny Fernandez and Massari; corporate clients Toyota(Bahamas), Mac Cosmetics, DSquared /TIFF “Gold Fever”, Cross-Canada workshops and dance appearances.

Most recently, Tamina finished filming a role in “Turn the Beat Around” and “Disney’s Camp Rock 2″ which are scheduled for release in 2010.

Born and raised in small town Aylmer Quebec, Leah Totten moved to Toronto just over a year ago hoping to expand her knowledge and experience within the dance industry. She has worked across North America as a teacher with artistic directorship and choreography experience in hundreds of studios, schools, dance institutions and hip hop crews, including Providence (Rhode Island), Harbour Dance Centre (Vancouver) and Debbie Reynolds Dance Studio (Los Angeles).

Leah was also a chosen intern for Essence Dance Company (Gigi Torres) and was featured as “Become The Next” at Boogiezone University; a professional dance intensive where she taught alongside 50 of the industry’s best. Leah has spent 2 months in Europe teaching 30+ workshops in London, Nottingham, Ireland, Scotland, Poland, Hungary and Romania, and more recently completed Chonique Sneed and Lisette Bustamante’s ‘Creating Opportunities’ Program in NYC.

From Queens, NYC, Sho-Tyme has brought himself from street way of living to stepping on countless stages, videos, tours with many of the top Artist in the industry with allowing God and dance to change his life completely.
Sho-Tyme’s versatility as a dancer/ choreographer along with his creativity and extensive knowledge of Hip Hop, and other Street Dance styles have enabled him to choreograph for many of the top artists in the industry including: Aaliyah, Jay Z, Mary J Blige, P Diddy, Shakira, Busta Ryhmes, JLo , Sean Desman, Mya, TLC, Christina Milian , Kelly Rowland, Katy Perry, Gnarles Barkley to name a few.
Sho-Tyme is also the genius behind the Choreography for Gwen Stefani and her Harajuku Girls.
Sho-tyme has worked on TV Shows such as Dancing With The Stars, Dirty Dancing and on movies such as You Got Served, Stomp The Yard & Dance Flick. His recent work includes choreography for ‘So You Think You Can Dance Canada’ seasons 1-4 as well as the Choreographer and Co-Star of the featured film ‘You Got Served/Beat The World’ out on DVD now.
Sho-Tyme’s passion is to continue teaching an educating around the world of the now and new generation of dancers, that dance is from the heart and should be 1st done with love and passion not an industry goal.

Miles Faber Workshop

Miles Faber grew up in Calgary Alberta, where he started Bboying (Breaking) at the age of 16. He began his professional career at the age of19. After coming in 3rd place of SYTYCDC Season 1, he has been working non-stop. Miles dances Funk, Soul, Hip Hop, and Electric Boogaloo style of Popping. Miles has performed and danced with many artists including Shawn Desman, Ludacris, 2 Live Crew, Dirty Vegas, Blake Mcgrath, MC Hammer, and more! Miles has choreographed and been in many films and television shows including MTV’s “Turn the Beat Around”, Disney’s “Frenemies”, “Score: A Hockey Musical”, to name a few. Miles just won the Popping championships as well as the All Styles championship at Toronto’s international competition World Of Dance. Now Miles continues to teach and perform around the world as well as perfecting his own craft of dance.

Kevin Howe has been dancing since the young age of 5. After 14 years of training in various styles of dance including Jazz, Tap, Hip hop, arco and contemporary in his hometown Ottawa, ON he decided to make the move to Toronto to begin his professional career.

Since then he has taken the dance world by storm from all angles, working with big names like Girlicious, Blake McGrath, Ke$ha, Russel Peters and Lady Gaga to name a few. On top of his stage performances, he has also ventured into film. His film and TV credits include Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure with Disney’s Ashley Tisdale, HBO’s Hellcats, and Disney’s Frenemies.

Most recently, Kevin was chosen to be apart of Canada’s top 22 on season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance Canada. Recognized for both his dance abilities and choreography skills, Howe has began to make a name for himself in the industry amongst other well established professionals.

Having won the national title of “Americas Young Choreographer of the year” in both 2007 and 2010, his creative and innovative style has brought Kevin a lot of positive attention and he has since been given the opportunity to teach workshops and masterclasses to students and teachers across Canada.
